Hindu College celebrated its 127th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm, dignity, and intellectual vibrancy. The historic occasion honored the vision of its founder, Krishnadas Ji Gurwale, while reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, nation-building, and social leadership.

The ceremony brought together distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and alumni, reflecting the college’s rich legacy and enduring spirit.

UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar Attends as Chief Guest

The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The program was presided over by T.C.A. Ranganathan, Chairman of the Governing Body. Principal Prof. Anju Srivastava formally welcomed all dignitaries and attendees.

In his inspiring address, Dr. Ajay Kumar highlighted Hindu College’s historic role in India’s freedom movement and intellectual tradition. He noted that when the college was founded, India faced a fundamental question: “Can India become independent?” According to him, Hindu College answered that question not only through ideas but also through action and sacrifice.

AI and India’s Future: A Defining Opportunity

Turning to present-day challenges, Dr. Kumar raised a thought-provoking question: “In a world changing faster than ever before, can we become great again? And if yes, how?”

He identified two defining forces shaping India’s future:

  • India’s historic resurgence

  • The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Dr. Kumar described AI as a transformative opportunity for India. He said AI can help move society from scarcity to prosperity by improving healthcare, expanding quality education, and strengthening inclusive nutrition systems.

However, he also emphasized the need for ethical leadership and human values. In his words, “The question is not whether AI will change India’s future—it certainly will. The real question is whether we will guide AI, or AI will guide us.”

He encouraged students and faculty to uphold moral courage, intellectual honesty, and a strong sense of duty in this era of rapid technological transformation. After his speech, he also interacted with students and answered questions related to civil services and the evolving nature of governance.

Principal’s Annual Report Highlights Achievements

During the ceremony, Principal Prof. Anju Srivastava presented the Annual Report of the college. She outlined key achievements in academics, infrastructure development, research projects, and publications.

She also highlighted students’ outstanding performances in national and international sports competitions. Faculty contributions in research, publications, and academic leadership were specially acknowledged.

Importantly, Hindu College secured the first rank in Arts and Science categories in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), marking a significant milestone for the institution.

Awards, Alumni Presence, and Cultural Performances

The event also featured the felicitation of college and university toppers by the Chief Guest. A research publication exhibition organized by the college library attracted special attention.

A large number of alumni attended the celebration, showcasing the institution’s strong and vibrant legacy. The event concluded with colorful cultural performances by various student societies, reflecting the creative energy and cultural spirit of the campus.

A Celebration Beyond Legacy

The 127th Foundation Day of Hindu College was not merely a celebration of its glorious past. Instead, it served as a meaningful platform to reflect on India’s future in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

By blending tradition with forward-looking ideas, the event reinforced Hindu College’s role as a beacon of intellectual courage, ethical reflection, and national progress.
