The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the India T20 Squad for the upcoming India vs Ireland T20 Series and India vs England T20 Series, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Indian Cricket Team. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain of Team India in the shortest format, while Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain.

The squad announcement has also created excitement among cricket fans as 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi received his maiden call-up to the India Cricket Team. With this selection, he becomes the youngest player ever chosen for the senior men’s national side.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the appointments following the selection committee meeting held at the board headquarters. The announcement comes as Team India prepares for an important international season that includes tours of Ireland and England, followed by the Asian Games in Japan.

Shreyas Iyer to Lead Team India in T20 Cricket

The appointment of Shreyas Iyer signals a leadership transition in the Indian Cricket Team. After a successful phase under Suryakumar Yadav, the selectors have entrusted Iyer with leading Team India into the next cycle, which includes preparations for the 2028 ICC T20 World Cup and the Olympic Games.

Iyer has consistently demonstrated leadership qualities in domestic cricket, the IPL, and international cricket. His experience and calm approach were key factors behind the decision to hand him the captaincy of the India T20 Team.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Creates History for Team India

The biggest talking point from the India T20 Squad announcement is undoubtedly Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The teenage sensation enjoyed a remarkable IPL 2026 season and earned widespread praise for his fearless batting style.

By earning a place in the Indian Cricket Team, Suryavanshi has become the youngest cricketer ever selected for Team India. Cricket experts believe his inclusion reflects the selectors’ confidence in his ability to perform at the highest level.
