India Reaffirms Jammu and Kashmir Stance at UNSC, Counters Pakistan and China

India strongly reiterated its long-standing position on Jammu and Kashmir during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, firmly rejecting attempts by Pakistan and China to raise the issue on an international platform.

The statement came during an Arria Formula meeting of the UNSC titled “Bridging the Implementation Gap: Security Council Resolutions and Maintenance of International Peace and Security.” During the discussion, Pakistan once again attempted to bring the Jammu and Kashmir issue before the international community, with support from China.

Responding to the remarks, India made it clear that Jammu and Kashmir remains an integral and inseparable part of the country and that no external party has any role in matters concerning the region.

India Reiterates Its Stand on Jammu and Kashmir

Speaking at the meeting, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, P. Harish, firmly rejected Pakistan’s assertions regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

He stated that Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will always remain an integral part of India. According to the Indian representative, the issue falls entirely within India’s sovereign jurisdiction and does not require external intervention.

India emphasized that its position on Jammu and Kashmir has remained consistent over the years and that attempts to internationalize the matter have repeatedly failed to gain broader support.

The statement reflects New Delhi’s continued commitment to treating Jammu and Kashmir as an internal matter under the framework of the Indian Constitution.

Pakistan Raises Kashmir Issue Again at International Forum

Pakistan has frequently sought to raise the Kashmir issue at various international forums, including the United Nations. During the recent UNSC Arria Formula meeting, Islamabad once again attempted to draw attention to the issue.

However, India responded by reiterating that bilateral issues between India and Pakistan must be addressed through direct channels and not through international mediation.

According to India, mechanisms established under Chapter VI of the United Nations Charter should not automatically be viewed as permanent arrangements. Instead, their utility should be evaluated in light of changing global circumstances.

This position reflects India’s broader view that international institutions must adapt to contemporary realities to remain effective and credible.

Call for Review of Security Council Mandates

India further stated that as discussions continue under the UN80 initiative to review various mandates and structures within the United Nations system, Security Council mandates should also be examined with the same seriousness.

The Indian delegation emphasized the importance of ensuring that international mechanisms remain relevant, efficient, and aligned with present-day challenges.

Observers note that India has increasingly advocated reforms in global governance institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, to better reflect current geopolitical realities.

Diplomatic Message to the International Community

The latest remarks at the United Nations send a clear diplomatic message regarding India’s position on Jammu and Kashmir.
