New Delhi: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Saturday (February 21) against Unacademy over alleged non-refund of fees to students enrolled at its offline coaching centre in Karol Bagh. According to ABVP, more than 1,500 students are facing difficulties after the coaching institute decided to shut down its offline centre without returning the deposited fees. Students claim that despite the closure of the centre, the company has not refunded their money. Offline Centre Closure Sparks Protest Unacademy is primarily known as an online education platform but also operated an offline coaching centre in Karol Bagh, Delhi. A large number of students were enrolled at the centre. Students alleged that the management is planning to close the centre suddenly. When students approached the administration for clarification, tensions increased. ABVP activists have been supporting the affected students and have been protesting since February 20. Allegations of Inhumane Treatment Students have accused the institute of inhumane behavior during the dispute. Some students alleged that they were locked inside the premises when they tried to speak with the management. Students claimed they informed the police about the incident, but no effective action was taken. Due to continued difficulties, students approached ABVP for support. Students Allege Planned Closure Students claimed that the institute first removed teachers and later informed students that classes could not continue because faculty members had left. However, students said that teachers confirmed they were removed from their jobs. According to the protesters: Students admitted in February, March, and April have not received refunds Some students who enrolled after May received partial payments Many students are still waiting for refunds ABVP Alleges Fraud by Institute ABVP alleged that the institute continued taking admissions and fees even after planning to shut the centre. One student, identified as Parul, claimed that she paid fees despite the institute already planning to close the centre. The institute is now refusing to refund the amount. ABVP accused the coaching institute of cheating students by closing the offline centre after collecting fees. ABVP Demands Immediate Refund Delhi ABVP State Secretary Sarthak Sharma said that ABVP has always stood for student rights. He stated that ABVP will continue to support the affected students until justice is delivered.
