The Department of Physics at Shivaji College, a prestigious institution accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC, successfully organized a two-day international conference titled “Emerging Frontiers in Sustainable, Functional and Advanced Materials (IC-SFAM 2026)”. The conference was held on April 9–10, 2026, in hybrid mode, bringing together leading scientists, academicians, researchers, and students from across the globe.

The event was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Virendra Bhardwaj, Principal of Shivaji College. In his welcome address during the inaugural session, Prof. Bhardwaj emphasized the growing importance of international academic collaborations in addressing modern-day challenges. He highlighted that science and technology hold the key to solving many global issues, particularly when aligned with sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.

He further stressed the importance of promoting green and sustainable technologies, stating that scientific advancements must work in favor of both the environment and humanity. According to him, conferences like IC-SFAM 2026 play a vital role in shaping a future driven by innovation and sustainability.

The conference was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Chief Guest Prof. Ashok Nagawat, Vice Chancellor of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University. In his address, Prof. Nagawat highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary research in tackling contemporary scientific and environmental challenges. He encouraged young researchers to explore collaborative approaches that integrate multiple fields of study.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. Inder Mohan Kapahi, former member of the University Grants Commission, also addressed the gathering. He spoke about the growing importance of artificial intelligence in scientific research and discussed the opportunities and challenges it presents. He urged students, educators, and researchers in physics to actively engage with emerging technologies to stay relevant in the evolving academic landscape.

The conference featured insightful keynote sessions by renowned experts, including Prof. R. K. Kotonala and Prof. Binay Kumar. Their talks focused on cutting-edge topics such as nanomaterials, renewable energy systems, quantum materials, and smart functional devices. These sessions provided valuable perspectives on the role of physics in driving technological innovation and sustainable development.

Several technical sessions were conducted throughout the conference, where researchers and academicians presented their work through oral and poster presentations. These sessions showcased innovative findings and highlighted new approaches toward sustainable development. The discussions emphasized interdisciplinary collaboration, encouraging participants to explore new research dimensions across scientific domains.

A key focus of IC-SFAM 2026 was the promotion of sustainable development, green products, and environmentally friendly technologies. Experts evaluated the role of advanced materials and green innovations in addressing global environmental challenges. The conference received financial support from Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), which played a crucial role in enabling the successful organization of the event.

Conference Convener Dr. Surendra Kumar expressed his gratitude to the Principal, organizing team, and ANRF for their support. He also acknowledged the enthusiastic participation of hundreds of teachers, researchers, and students from Shivaji College and various institutions across the country.

IC-SFAM 2026 concluded on a high note, leaving participants inspired and motivated to pursue innovative research in sustainable and advanced materials.
