The Lakshmibai College Centre of the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), University of Delhi, organised its “Annual Festival and Prize Distribution Ceremony 2026” on Sunday at the Lalit Kala Courtyard of the college campus. The event celebrated academic excellence, cultural participation, and sports achievements of students and faculty members. The programme witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests and academicians. The chief guest of the event was Prof. Jayant Kumar Tripathi. The special guest was Dr. Jyoti Chauthaiwale. Other prominent dignitaries included Dr. Surendra Kumar, Prof. Lata Sharma, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Mahato, Dr. Priyanka Kumari, and Dr. Ashwini Tiwari. The ceremony formally began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a Saraswati Vandana performance. Guests were welcomed with handcrafted gifts, plants, and ceremonial shawls, reflecting Indian cultural traditions. In his welcome address, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Mahato greeted the guests and highlighted the significance of the annual celebration. Principal Prof. Lata Sharma presented the annual report of the NCWEB Lakshmibai College Centre. She praised the dedication and hard work of the students, stating that their continuous efforts had contributed to the institution’s achievements. Prof. Sharma also stressed the importance of holistic development. She encouraged students to actively participate in academics, cultural activities, sports, and social initiatives. According to her, balanced growth is essential for shaping responsible and progressive individuals. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Jayant Kumar Tripathi appreciated the functioning and educational model of NCWEB. He said that similar teaching models should be developed in universities across India to expand higher education opportunities for women. He added that NCWEB has played an important role in empowering women through accessible education. Special guest Dr. Jyoti Chauthaiwale spoke about the role of women in nation-building and social progress. She stated that the progress of a society depends greatly on the status and contribution of women. Referring to Indian cultural values, she said women have always served as guides and role models in society. She further noted that a strong and ideal nation can be built through the leadership and vision of women. The event also featured cultural performances presented by students and faculty members. Music, dance, and other artistic presentations added enthusiasm and colour to the celebration. More than 700 students, teachers, and non-teaching staff members attended the programme. During the ceremony, certificates and mementoes were awarded to students who excelled in academ ic, cultural, and sports activities. Faculty members who participated in sports competitions held during the Sports Day in February were also honoured. In the women’s race competition, Dr. Priyanka Kumari secured the first position, while Uma Bharti and Madhuri Jha secured the second and third positions respectively. In the men’s race category, Ajay Kumar Kumawat won the first prize. Rahul Mishra secured the second position, while Manoj Kumar Mandal stood third. A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the “Excellence Student Award” to Jagriti for her outstanding performance and contribution. The programme was jointly conducted by Ajay Kumar Kumawat from the Department of History and Humera Naaz from the Department of English. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Priyanka Kumari. NCWEB, established in 1944, continues to work towards women’s education and empowerment. At present, the board operates through 27 centres under the University of Delhi, including 26 undergraduate centres and one postgraduate centre. Under the leadership of Prof. Geeta Bhatt, the institution regularly organises seminars, workshops, academic competitions, and cultural activities to promote quality education among women students.
