Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening) organized a session of the Mimansa Lecture Series under its Sadhya Programme, featuring senior journalist and author Vijay Trivedi as the keynote speaker. The lecture focused on the theme “Politics and Cultural Action.” The event brought together students, research scholars and faculty members for an academic discussion on the relationship between politics and culture and the role of cultural elements in political processes. Lecture Focuses on Politics and Cultural Processes During his address, Vijay Trivedi discussed the interrelationship between politics and culture. He spoke about the significance of cultural discourse in understanding contemporary Indian politics. He said that politics should not be viewed only as a process of acquiring power or running governments. According to him, politics is also connected with broader cultural dimensions of society. Trivedi highlighted the role of collective memories, cultural symbols, traditions, aspirations and identity formation in shaping political processes. He emphasized that these factors remain closely linked to political developments and public life. Principal Chairs the Session The programme was chaired by Prof. Bharat Singh, Principal of Zakir Husain Delhi College (Evening). The session was conducted by Kunwar Pranjal Singh, In-charge of the Department of Political Science. Faculty members, students and research scholars attended the lecture and participated in the academic discussion. Interactive Question-and-Answer Session Held Following the lecture, an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session was organized. Students and research scholars raised questions related to the theme and shared their perspectives on the relationship between politics and culture. The discussion provided participants with an opportunity to engage with the subject and exchange views on different aspects of political and cultural discourse. Faculty Members from Various Departments Attend The event witnessed participation from faculty members representing multiple academic disciplines. From the Department of Political Science, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Omprakash Dahiya, Shubhra Pant Kothari and Tariq Sahib attended the programme. Faculty members from other departments were also present. These included Prof. Jai Kishan from the Department of Economics, Arbin Thakur from the Department of Environmental Science, and Barinder Kumar from the Department of Commerce. The Department of Hindi was represented by Prof. Anil Sharma, Sapna Tiwari and Satish Kumar. From the Department of Philosophy, Suraj Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Zafar participated in the programme. Hari Prasad from the Department of English and Tilak Sarkar, Sushil Kumar, Muzaffar and Vijay Narayan from Indian Languages were also present.
