The Culture Council of the University of Delhi, in collaboration with Motilal Nehru College (Evening), organised a three-day inter-college and departmental fine arts competition from October 6 to 8, 2026. The event brought together students from colleges and departments across the university. It featured six categories of visual arts and provided a platform for students to present their artistic work. Motilal Nehru College (Evening), designated as the nodal centre for the fine arts category, hosted the competitions. According to the organisers, the event received 310 registrations through Google Forms across all six categories. Six Categories Featured in DU Fine Arts Competition The competition included six events: On-the-Spot Painting, Collage Making, Clay Modelling, Rangoli, Poster Making and Cartooning. Students participated in the competitions by creating artworks based on themes related to society, culture, the environment and everyday life. Themes Covered Art, Culture and Environment The themes included Means of Transport and Communication, Cultural Tourism, Mother and Child, Indian Festival, Environment Conservation and A Fun Moment of Your Childhood. Participants presented their interpretations of these subjects through different artistic forms. The entries were evaluated by a panel of expert judges, while designated observers monitored the proceedings throughout the three-day event. The competition brought together students from different institutions and academic departments of the University of Delhi. Prize Distribution Ceremony Held on October 8 The valedictory ceremony and prize distribution took place at Motilal Nehru College (Evening) on October 8. Shri Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the Culture Council and Public Relations Officer of the University of Delhi, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Prof. Ravinder Kumar, Dean of the Culture Council, University of Delhi, was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Sandeep Garg, Principal of Motilal Nehru College (Evening), and Shri Debasish Parashar, Nodal Officer for the Fine Arts category, were also present. University Officials Address Participants Addressing the gathering, Shri Anoop Lather spoke about the role of fine arts in creativity, self-expression and personal engagement. He appreciated the enthusiasm shown by the participating students. Prof. Ravinder Kumar encouraged students to recognise their individuality and engage with creative activities. Principal Prof. Sandeep Garg acknowledged the efforts of the faculty members, organisers and student volunteers involved in conducting the competition. Winners Receive Cash Prizes and Certificates Winners in all six categories received cash prizes, trophies and certificates at the closing ceremony. The first-prize winners received ₹5,000 each, while second-prize winners received ₹4,000 each. Third-prize winners were awarded ₹3,000 each. The awards recognised the achievements of participants across the competition categories. The organisers used the prize distribution ceremony to acknowledge students who secured positions in their respective events. Cultural Performances Mark Closing Ceremony The valedictory ceremony also featured several cultural presentations. The programme included a rendition of Vande Mataram, the University of Delhi’s Kulgeet and Saraswati Vandana. A Shiv Tandav dance performance was also presented during the event. These performances formed part of the closing programme, which brought together participants, faculty members, university representatives and organisers. Collaboration Supports University-Level Participation The three-day competition was organised through the collaborative efforts of the Culture Council, University of Delhi, and Motilal Nehru College (Evening). The college administration, judges, observers, faculty members, student volunteers and support staff contributed to the conduct of the event. With 310 registrations across six categories, the competition recorded participation from students interested in visual arts and creative activities. The programme concluded on October 8 with the prize distribution ceremony and cultural performances.
