Ranchi, June 2026: In a major decision that could have far-reaching implications for recruitment processes in Jharkhand, the state government has officially cancelled the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Hemant Soren after a high-level meeting with cabinet ministers that lasted for more than three hours.

The decision comes amid sustained protests by JPSC-JSSC aspirants who have been demanding action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The government has also ordered a detailed investigation into the matter and announced a series of reforms aimed at improving transparency in future examinations.

Government Takes Tough Stand on Recruitment Irregularities

Addressing the media after the meeting, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said the government is deeply concerned about the issues raised by students and job aspirants. He stated that the administration is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent recruitment system.

According to the Chief Minister, the government has already introduced strict laws to tackle examination-related misconduct and intends to implement them effectively. He emphasized that maintaining the trust of the state’s youth remains a top priority.

Soren also acknowledged the ongoing protests by students at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Stadium and said several rounds of discussions had taken place to understand their concerns.

JSSC CGL Examination Officially Cancelled

The most significant announcement from the meeting was the cancellation of the JSSC CGL examination conducted by TDPL. The government cited serious concerns regarding the conduct of the examination and ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities.

The cancellation marks one of the strongest actions taken by the state government in response to demands from aspirants who have been questioning the credibility of the recruitment process.

Officials indicated that the decision was made after reviewing preliminary findings and considering the broader impact on public confidence.

Key Decisions Announced by the Jharkhand Government

The state government announced several major decisions following the meeting:

  • The JSSC CGL examination conducted by TDPL has been cancelled.
  • A judicial inquiry led by a retired judge will investigate the JSSC CGL examination.
  • Special Investigation Team (SIT) and CID investigations will continue.
  • Authorities have identified what they describe as a large network linked to recruitment-related irregularities.
  • Recruitment examinations conducted since 2014 will be reviewed.
  • The 14th JPSC examination has been cancelled.
  • Backlog examinations scheduled for 2023 and 2025 have also been cancelled.

These decisions signal a comprehensive review of the recruitment ecosystem in Jharkhand.

SIT and CID Findings Raise Serious Concerns

Chief Minister Soren revealed that investigations by the SIT and CID have uncovered information that officials consider highly concerning. While he did not disclose specific details, he indicated that the findings suggest the involvement of a wider network connected to examination and recruitment processes.

The government believes that a thorough investigation is necessary to identify all individuals and organizations involved. Authorities have promised strict action against anyone found guilty of wrongdoing.

The judicial probe is expected to work alongside ongoing investigations to ensure accountability and transparency.

New Reform Portal to Improve Transparency

The Jharkhand government also announced plans to introduce additional reforms to strengthen recruitment procedures.

A dedicated reform portal is being developed to improve transparency in examination management. In a notable move, parents and guardians will also be included in the reform process to increase public oversight and trust.

The government stated that examinations should be conducted strictly according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Officials believe that adherence to established guidelines could help prevent irregularities in the future.

Committee Formed Under Senior IAS Officer

To oversee the reform process, the state government has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal.

The committee will examine existing recruitment procedures and recommend measures to improve examination security, transparency, and accountability. It will also review technological and administrative safeguards required for future recruitment examinations.

Students Welcome Government Action

The announcement is likely to bring relief to many students who have been demanding a fair investigation into alleged examination irregularities. Protesters have repeatedly called for cancellation of disputed examinations and stricter oversight of recruitment agencies.

The government’s decision reflects growing pressure from aspirants seeking transparent recruitment practices and merit-based selection.
