Bihar-Based Parties Step Up UP Elections 2027 Preparations

Three Bihar-based political parties—Janata Dal (United) [JDU], Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP (Ram Vilas)] and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP)—have stepped up their political activities in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The three parties are focusing on organisational expansion and outreach among specific social groups as they seek to strengthen their presence in the state.

While all three parties have established social support bases in Bihar, their electoral performance in Uttar Pradesh has remained limited in previous elections. Despite this, they have announced plans to expand their footprint before the next Assembly polls.

JDU Focuses on Kurmi and Extremely Backward Communities

JDU formally announced in July 2026 that it intends to contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The party has begun preparations to strengthen its organisation and conduct outreach programmes across the state.

According to party leaders, JDU is focusing on Kurmi voters and Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), particularly in eastern and central Uttar Pradesh. Several districts bordering Bihar have been identified as key areas for organisational expansion.

JDU’s Previous Electoral Performance

JDU contested 27 seats in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The party secured 97,738 votes, accounting for approximately 0.11 percent of the total valid votes, but failed to win any seat.

Its best performance in Uttar Pradesh came in 2007 when it contested 16 seats as part of an alliance and won one seat while securing more than 221,000 votes.

In 2012, the party contested 219 seats but did not win any constituency. JDU did not contest the 2017 Assembly elections.

Party leaders have indicated that organisational strengthening and outreach among Kurmi and backward communities will remain central to its preparations for UP Elections 2027.

LJP (Ram Vilas) Expands Outreach Among Dalit Communities

LJP (Ram Vilas), led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, has also increased its political activities in Uttar Pradesh. The party has organised programmes in the state and announced plans to expand its organisational network ahead of the Assembly elections.

The party’s traditional support base in Bihar has been among Dalit communities, particularly the Paswan community. In Uttar Pradesh, LJP (Ram Vilas) is attempting to broaden its outreach among various Dalit groups.

Electoral Record in Uttar Pradesh

The undivided Lok Janshakti Party contested 72 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh in 2007 but did not win any seat. In 2012, it fielded candidates on 212 seats and secured 173,458 votes, representing around 0.23 percent of the total vote share.

Following the split in the party, LJP (Ram Vilas) contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and fielded candidates on 21 seats. The party received 12,247 votes and did not win any constituency.

Party leaders have stated that efforts are underway to expand the organisation across Uttar Pradesh before the 2027 elections.

VIP Targets Nishad Community Through Reservation Campaign

The Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), led by Mukesh Sahani, has launched a campaign centred on issues concerning the Nishad community and related groups.

The party’s support base primarily includes Nishad, Mallah, Sahani, Kevat and fishing communities. These communities are spread across several districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Focus on Nishad Reservation

In 2026, Mukesh Sahani announced a 101-day Nishad Reservation Sankalp Yatra aimed at raising awareness regarding reservation-related demands.

VIP first contested the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022. Although the party initially planned to contest more than 100 seats, it eventually fielded candidates in 53 constituencies.

The party secured 127,451 votes, accounting for approximately 0.14 percent of the total valid votes. It did not win any seat.

Most of its electoral activity was concentrated in districts such as Ballia, Ambedkar Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Bahraich, Jaunpur, Azamgarh and Mau.

Different Strategies Ahead of UP Elections 2027

The three Bihar-based parties are pursuing different social and organisational strategies in Uttar Pradesh.

JDU is focusing on Kurmi and Extremely Backward Class voters. LJP (Ram Vilas) is concentrating on outreach among Dalit communities. VIP is emphasising issues related to the Nishad community and reservation demands.

All three parties have announced organisational expansion plans ahead of the Assembly elections. However, their previous electoral performances indicate that they have yet to establish a significant electoral presence in Uttar Pradesh.

With political activity expected to intensify in the coming months, the preparations of these Bihar-based parties are likely to remain under observation as UP Elections 2027 approaches.
